Industrial Farming in Granville County

On Thursday September 18, 2014 the Members of the Honorable Board of Commissioners of Granville County met to discuss with the Granville Planning Board to talk about issues involving solar farms. Chairman Currin had called the meeting to receive feedback from the residents of Granville County on considering a proposed amendment to the Land Development Code. The amendment would remove solar farms from its land use and turn it into a potential Agricultural Residential 40 district. Bernard Holliday a resident from Creedmoor, NC located in Granville County stated that the North Carolina State Legislature made it mandatory that public utilities produce renewable energy sources by 20% in 2025. Holliday believed that if the solar farms created employment for citizens of Granville County and that solar farms would be available to Granville County as a resource. Later on the board wanted to put a moratorium on solar farms in the Agricultural Residential districts.
