Cedars in the Pines

Lebanese people had began to come to America in 1880-1914. Over 360,00 people had left Lebanon for America. The Lebanese left American because of the economic crisis in Lebanon. The Lebanese believed that if they left Lebanon then they would be able to create a better life for themselves and for their families. America was not the only place the Lebanese traveled they also went to other countries all over the world. The Lebanese primarily found job opportunities by owning their own businesses and sold materials. The Lebanese were seen as immigrants and Catholics which was not as popular at the time as Christianity. The Lebanese were somewhat also treated the same way as blacks were.Because their skin was darker people believed that they deserved the same treatment as blacks. The Lebanese immediately worked hard to adapt to the American way of life and language. Even though they were in a new place and around new people who did not share the same culture as them they did there best to keep their culture alive. Lebanese parents made sure that their kids, their kids kids, and the generation after that knew what being Lebanese meant.
